Classroom Modules

In addition to the online learning programme candidates will be given the opportunity to take additional classroom modules. Each module will focus on the tasting element of the WSET L2 and L3 syllabus. At each session approximately 10-15 wines from the syllabus will be tasted. The classroom modules should also be seen as an opportunity to meet with the tutor to discuss progress and ask any questions relating to the theory element of the syllabus.

Modules available are as follows:

L2 Wines & Spirits Module 1 – The Systematic Approach to Tasting & Core Wine Styles

A tasting session of 15 core wines from the WSET L2 Award in Wines & Spirits recommended wine list. Candidates will complete the module with a thorough understanding of the WSET’s Systematic Approach to Tasting and major grape varieties.

L2 Spirits Module 1 – The Systematic Approach to Tasting and other key spirits

A tasting of 15 key spirits from the recommended samples list for the WSET L2 Award in Spirits. Candidates will complete the module with a thorough understanding of the WSET’s Systematic Approach to Tasting and major spirits styles.

L3 Wines Module 1 – The Systematic Approach to Tasting, Viticulture & Vinfication

An introduction to the Systematic Approach to Tasting and blind tasting technique. The session will also consider how the natural factors in the vineyard and human factors in the winery influence wine style and quality.

L3 Wines Module 2 – Old World Wines

Exploring the wines of the Old World, a tasting session of 15 key wines from the list of WSET L3 recommended samples. To assist candidates with their preparation for the practical examination a number of wines will be tasted blind under examination conditions.

L3 Wines Module 3 – New World Wines

In this module students will be tasting a range of wines of the New World, a tasting session of 15 key wines from the list of WSET L3 recommended samples. To assist candidates with their preparation for the practical examination a number of wines will be tasted blind under examination conditions.

L3 Wines Module 4 – Sparkling & Fortified Wines

An opportunity to study in detail the sparkling and fortified wines from the list of recommended wines from the specification.

Each module is a 4 hour session and held in our training room at Edinburgh School of Food & Wine. Dates and times for each module can be found here.

Modules can be attended individually by candidates who are interested in the subject or preparing for an examination.

Dates have been scheduled for the modules to allow candidates to attend monthly sessions or to attend a consecutive series of sessions prior to the examination, click here.
